Paying for Graduate School

Investing in graduate education is a significant decision, and Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability offers a variety of scholarships, fellowships, loans, and other forms of financial assistance to help make graduate study more accessible. Visit our Financial Aid page  to learn more about available funding opportunities.

Upon enrollment, new students submit a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $515, which is applied toward their first semester charges.

Tuition and fees are billed by semester, with charges for the academic year typically divided into two equal installments. Students may also choose to spread payments over time through a payment plan offered by Student Accounts.

Below, you will find tuition and fee information for our MBA, MSMEd, and dual-degree programs, along with details about program fees, additional expenses, and our refund policy.

Health Insurance

All students enrolled in the Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability are required to maintain health insurance that provides coverage in the Hudson Valley, where Bard's main campus is located.

Students are automatically enrolled in Bard College's student health insurance plan unless they submit proof of qualifying health insurance coverage and receive an approved waiver. Students whose waiver requests are not approved will remain enrolled in the College's plan, and the insurance premium will be billed through Student Accounts.

For the 2026–2027 academic year, the annual student health insurance premium is $3,995. This charge is billed during the fall semester and is separate from tuition and program fees.

For more information about plan benefits, eligibility requirements, waiver instructions, and important deadlines, please visit the Bard Health Services website.

Payment Schedule

Enrollment Deposit
Upon accepting an offer of admission, new students submit a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $515 per degree (students enrolling in a dual-degree program submit one deposit for each degree). The deposit is typically due four weeks after admission and financial aid decisions are released.

Of the $515 enrollment deposit, $500 is applied toward the student's first semester charges.

Tuition + Fees
Tuition and fees are billed by semester, with the academic year's charges generally divided into two installments based on fall and spring/summer enrollment. Billing statements reflect tuition, mandatory fees, and any applicable financial aid.

Fall charges are due in late June or late July, while spring/summer charges are due in late November or late December. Summer courses are billed with the spring semester, allowing eligible students to use financial aid toward summer tuition.

Payment Plan
Bard offers optional payment plans that allow students to spread semester charges over three or five monthly payments. For more information and enrollment instructions, visit the Student Financial Services website.

Refund Policy

Students who choose to withdraw from the Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability must submit an official notice of withdrawal to their program administration. The date the notice is received determines the applicable tuition refund.

Tuition Refund Schedule:
  • Before the first day of classes or workshops: 100% tuition refund, minus the nonrefundable enrollment deposit.
  • During the first week of classes or workshops: 75% tuition refund.
  • During the second week: 60% tuition refund.
  • During the third or fourth week: 30% tuition refund.
  • After the fourth week: No tuition refund.

Financial Aid
Students receiving financial aid who withdraw from the program may have their financial aid adjusted or returned in accordance with institutional and federal policies.
  • Institutional fellowships are reduced by the same percentage as the tuition refund.
  • Federal Direct Loans are recalculated in accordance with federal Return of Title IV Funds regulations, which may require Bard to return a portion of the loan to the U.S. Department of Education.
As these adjustments may affect a student's account balance and any refund they receive, students considering withdrawal are encouraged to consult with the Office of Student Financial Services before withdrawing.

Nonrefundable Charges
The following charges are nonrefundable:
  • Enrollment deposit
  • Housing payments
  • Registration fees
  • Student health insurance premiums
  • Facilities fees
No refunds are provided in cases of suspension or expulsion.
