Kyrgyzstan Climate Educators Network (KCEN)
Bard College
Bard College is a private institution that was founded in 1860. Bard’s approach to learning focuses on the individual, primarily through small group seminars. These are structured to encourage thoughtful, critical discourse in an inclusive environment. Faculty are active in their fields and stress the connection between the contemplative life of the mind and active engagement outside the classroom. They strive to foster rigorous and free inquiry, intellectual ambition, and creativity.
The College offers undergraduate, graduate, and dual-degree programs in environmental studies, science and policy. Bard students, faculty, and staff work locally and nationally toward a future where we can thrive. Initiatives coordinated by Bard Office of Sustainability (BOS) are taking the Annandale campus closer to its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
American University of Central Asia
American University of Central Asia is an international, multi-disciplinary learning community in the American liberal arts tradition, including 12 undergraduate majors and 3 graduate programs. AUCA is committed to freedom of expression, critical inquiry and academic honesty and offers accredited degrees in the liberal arts and sciences through a partnership with Bard College in the US. AUCA has a new Department, ‘Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science’ (ESCS). This program fits the mission of the University to train enlightened and purposeful leaders who think globally and act locally in the specific conditions of Central Asia.
Through its partnership with Bard, AUCA has been engaged in climate education outreach since 2019, and has already developed connections with educators in other schools and NGO’s. These partnerships will form the basis for recruiting student and educator leaders from these organizations. The Teach-in and Bard trainings are for student and teachers who speak English. The NGOs who work with youth and business groups will provide trainings in English, Russian or Kyrgyz.
